About

ILA: A Frosty Glide is currently in development. With this revamped demo version we want to offer you a more polished and extended experience compared to the initial demo release in January.

We want to continue building upon the original concept of a magical platform exploration adventure with cozy vibes. And of course, exploring our personal fusion of longboarding and magical elements.

Trivia fact for hardcore fans! The idea was initially born during the Bigmode Game Jam 2023 where, in just 19 days, we developed “Skaterwitch” which had great reviews and became the seed of ILA: A Frosty Glide. (hey! if you are here from the very beginning, thank you!)

We're pouring our hearts into this game and the adventure has just begun so your support means the world to us! Thank you so much ❤️

Played this a little while ago (exactly 2 weeks), and really enjoyed it so I wanted to give some feedback.

First off I gotta say I really admire the artstyle. It looks absolutely fantastic like an insanely cozy game. I don't think there's any possible improvement for the general art-direction of this game.

However I did have some tiny issues with some details.
The first issue is the distance blur effect. It can be really distracting when trying to analyze distant objects and trying to plan out a route to go.
It seems you already tried fixing this by only having the blur active when the camera is close to the character.
But I don't only have the camera close to the character when I am trying to look at the character. There's been multiple situations where I've just been moving the camera around to get a good angle of something in the distance.
Maybe try giving the player an item like a binocular with which they can analyze their surrounding from the players position. Or maybe a scouting magic pet thingy that allows them to have a flying camera.
(Or some less intrusive blur would also work, which would also make it less annoying to get out of places where your camera is naturally close to the player such as the bird statue)

Another detail like that is the "shadows". I dunno what exactly I am reffering to, so here's a GIF:
Take note of those weird Shadows happening when the character walks. No clue where that comes from and how much of a difference a "fix" would make.

Back to the general atmosphere of the game. I really really like the music. Together with the graphical style this already feels like a finished game.  It's making me extremely excited how the final project will look like.

And at last the gameplay.
I found it a bit tricky to control but that was far more so a feature than an issue. It feels like the kind of controls you casually learn as you go through the world, I like that, it fits the atmosphere.

I do have 2 minor issues here again.
The first is a bug. Sometimes the gliding doesn't start. From what I could playtest, I think it is caused by the ground not properly regenerating all the flight points. When that happens the broom doesn't start the flight automatically (or not even at all, I don't remember correctly). And just falling onto the ground again does no longer regain any flight points (from what I remember that was the case).
That's all the info I can give. I sadly can't reliably recreate it, it just sometimes happens.

The other issue is the general concept of the broom starting flight automatically. I am kind of unsure about it. It stole me quite a few flight points because I often try starting it manually instead of just waiting till it starts. and when I do that it uses up 2 flight points instead of only 1.
I think the startup of the flight should either be controlled manually or not use up a flight point.

Anyways that's it.
I am really hoping development will go smoothly and you can finish a great game. Good Luck on that Kickstarter.

This demo was cute and so much fun. Wishlisted and looking forward to the full release! ✨ Good luck with the Kickstarter!

Thanks for your comment and for trying out the demo! Glad you had fun!😊

ohm hi, so it made my obs crash, wanted to show it to my community, sadly did not go so well :D

Oh! I'm really sorry you had that problem. We have a new, more stable version that shouldn't crash. Thanks a lot for the report!

It was a lot of fun to play, with very beautiful graphics and a very beautiful map of rugged snowy mountains.
The controls were difficult at first, but I was happy to learn them gradually.
I love the perspective from the broken bridge and the look of the broom store!
I'm waiting for more of this game in the future, meow~!

Wow!! Thank you so much for playing and sharing the video! We really enjoyed watching it! we saw that at the end you went out of bounds and explored areas still in development, we didn't expect that lol
we're glad you enjoyed it :D

Hello, this is a great demo! :p

However I found a bug near the start of the game

This happens when you stick to the wall with your broom then you touch the floor when falling at the same time

Hi! thanks for playing and reporting the bug, we'll fix it as soon as possible!

You're welcome :)

Hello! Really enjoyed the new demo! It's been really polished since the original jam demo, the camera now works smoothly and the world is much more open! It's been fun finding all the chests and finding the perfect spots to pass through the rings from! And the level design is just beautiful!

One minor thing that could be a problem for some (I got used to it after a few tries), is the close position of the "pound" key and "dash" keys on the keyboard, where a mistype means pounding all the way down a chasm instead of flying to the needed place. But that's a minor nitpick, and the mushroom quick-travel really negated any potential frustration.

All in all, fantastic second demo, and good luck on your future work on the game!

Thank you so much for your comment and playing the new demo! Happy you enjoyed it.

We completely agree with your feedback about the dash and ground pound keys, and we're already working to fix it :D

I don't know if y'all are aware of this possible bug but I'm not able to install this game using the itch.io client. The game does run if I download the zip file so it's not a big issue but just one that i noticed. Also is there like a tutorial for the controls?

Thank you very much for letting us know! We didn't know, it's fixed now and can be downloaded directly from the itch.io client.

On the other hand, this is a recent version made for the jam and there is no tutorial as such in the game, but here are the controls.
Better experience with a controller! To glide, press and hold the jump button.

Controls - Xbox Controller

  • Left Joystick - Movement
  • Right  Joystick - Camera
  • A Button - Jump
  • Menu Button - Pause

Controls - Keyboard

  • AWSD - Movement
  • Mouse - Camera
  • Space  -  Jump
  • Escape - Pause

We will have a new updated version soon with new mechanics!

I gotta say I love the fact that you guys had this idea for the jam, but apparently loved it so much that you decided to fully develop it further. Its such a nice cozy game. Congrats for it

Thank you so much for your comment! yeah! We love magical worlds and some of us like skateboards too, so the concept of having a flying broom skate excites us a lot! We're glad you like it! :D

I like the chill music and the very nice atmosphere of climbing a quiet snowy mountain with a magic broom.

If you are going to play this game, make sure you press and hold the jump button to fly with the broomstick.

If you press the jump button again while you are flying, you can jump further by the number of magic.

Find the scrolls and Have fun!

Thanks for your kind comment and for trying out the game! :D  We're glad you liked the music and the vibe.
Also, thanks for the explanation on the mechanics, we're now working on improving the tutorial and conveying the experience better.
